Eliminate Negative Self-Talk

Updated: Oct 11, 2020

“You do not have a problem except the one that is in your own mind, and you put it there!” ~ Myrtle Fillmore, Unity Cofounder

This is also a favorite quote from Myrtle Fillmore, co-founder of Unity. Upfront, don’t read this to mean that I do not acknowledge that there are some big issues in each of our lives; however, I do know that for me so many of the problems I have are issues I create in my own mind. If details are missing in any story or surrounding any issue, I fill in the blanks and missing information. Now, I have no idea if what I am filling the blanks with is true, but I fill them in anyway. Almost 100 percent of the time when I do this, the issues I create in my mind are nothing like reality. In my mind, I am armed for bear when all that the issue requires is a small water gun (if anything at all)—which is to say that many issues are not really issues except in my mind.

And I have spent years filling my own mind with negative self-talk. The tapes that play over and over in my head help me justify my fears and keep me from fulfilling my wildest dreams and desires. The biggest problem I have is in my head because I put it there. So, how about you? I am guessing I am not alone in this problem area of my life. So I invite you to try today to eliminate the negative self-talk. Try to catch yourself before you put yourself down or reinforce a negative thought and instead compliment yourself. Remember, you are love, peace, kindness, compassion, and all of the good things that are already living inside of you waiting to be called forth in your mind. Let's work together to eliminate negative self-talk.

“Because God is infinite justice, you can always change the causes you set into operation, and so change the results. It is always measured to you as you yourself measure by your attitude and acts.” - Myrtle Fillmore in How To Let God Help You (1856)
